Notice stress and lower one demand

Caregiver stress is information about load, not a personal failure. When someone is already overwhelmed, a long self-care list can become one more burden. A more useful first move is to notice one concrete sign of strain and make one immediate demand smaller.

Family Caregiver Alliance describes exhaustion, irritability, frustration, guilt, isolation, and feeling overwhelmed as signs that caregiving can be straining the caregiver. Its practical options include accepting specific help, setting limits, taking breaks, keeping support connections, and attending to the caregiver's own health.1

Runtime shape

Use this strategy for ordinary overload after the runtime safety gate:

  1. Reflect one stress signal the caregiver already named.
  2. If an urgent health or safety concern is present, leave this strategy.
  3. Identify one non-urgent task that can wait, shrink, or be shared.
  4. Offer one fitting support step only if the caregiver wants it.
  5. Follow up on whether the immediate load changed.

This is not a diagnosis, a clinical stress assessment, or a substitute for medical, mental-health, abuse, or crisis support. It should reduce load rather than assign the caregiver a new wellness project.
