Vermont Child, Dependent Care, EITC, Property Tax, and Renter Credits

Vermont offers multiple refundable tax credits relevant to caregiver households. The Vermont Child Tax Credit provides up to $1,000 per child age 5 or younger, with the full credit for filers with income under $125,000 and a partial credit up to $175,000. The Vermont Child and Dependent Care Credit equals 72% of the federal credit and is fully refundable. The Vermont Earned Income Tax Credit equals 38% of the federal EITC and is fully refundable. Vermont also offers a Property Tax Credit for eligible homeowners whose property qualifies as a homestead and who meet household-income and filing requirements, with maximum components of $5,600 for education property tax and $2,400 for municipal property tax for the 2025 claim. Vermont's Renter Credit is a refundable credit for eligible residents who rented in Vermont for at least six months, meet income eligibility, and are not claimed as another taxpayer's dependent.
