North Carolina Structured Family Caregiving (Coordinated Caregiving)¶
North Carolina's Structured Family Caregiving model (known locally as Coordinated Caregiving) pays or supports live-in caregivers through NC Medicaid CAP home- and community-based waivers to provide in-home care as an alternative to institutional placement. Caregivers live with the care recipient and provide ongoing support throughout the day.
Pays or supports live-in caregivers for providing in-home care to Medicaid-eligible CAP waiver participants who require institutional level of care. NC Medicaid lists Coordinated Caregiving as an approved CAP/DA service for disabled adults age 18 and older, and as an approved CAP/C service for medically fragile and medically complex children age 0 through 20. Reported stipend is approximately $392 per week ($1,680 per month), though exact rates may vary. The caregiver must live with the care recipient and provide support throughout the day. An approved Structured Family Caregiving provider coordinates services, provides caregiver training, and conducts regular oversight visits.
