NC Medicaid 1915(i) Services

1915(i) services from NC Medicaid help people live in their own home and community instead of a care facility, for children and adults with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, traumatic brain injuries or intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Eligibility

• Household income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level
• Care recipient must have a qualifying disability
• Applicant age: at least 3
• Relationship: other relative, non relative

How to apply

• First, get NC Medicaid (apply at medicaid.ncdhhs.gov/apply or call the NC Medicaid Contact Center at 1-888-245-0179). Then call your Medicaid health plan's Member and Recipient Service Line (listed on your health plan ID card or welcome letter) to request a 1915(i) assessment; the assessment can be done in person or by telemedicine and can take up to an hour. Available only through Behavioral Health and I/DD Tailored Plans (Alliance Health, Partners Health Management, Trillium Health Resources, or Vaya Health), NC Medicaid Direct, or the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Option (not Standard Plans); the best way to find out if you are eligible is to try to get services; without Medicaid, call the LME/MCO serving your county and ask about state-funded services
