Family as Paid Caregiver

Family as Paid Caregiver is a self-direction service delivery option for Medicaid HCBS Waiver participants, allowing family members aged 21 and older to be paid for caregiving.

Eligibility

  • Care recipient must have a qualifying disability
  • Applicant age: at least 21
  • Relationship: spouse, parent, child, other relative

How to apply

  • Prior to a family member becoming or remaining a DSP, the Support Coordinator discusses best interest, self-determination, and extraordinary care with the beneficiary or legal guardian; the family member/LRI must complete Family as Paid Caregiver training and sign the attestation form, which the Support Coordinator then signs to set an effective date.
