Why caregivers reach out

Caregivers of people with mental illness often experience social isolation due to stigma and discrimination from providers.4 Caregivers themselves may experience elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion.3

NAMI addresses emotional wellbeing directly. It is relevant both for caregivers managing a loved one's mental illness and for caregivers experiencing their own mental health challenges as a result of caregiving demands.
