WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children)¶
Federal nutrition program providing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and healthcare referrals for low-income pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under age 5. Administered by USDA FNS under CFDA 10.557.
Monthly food packages (via EBT card or vouchers) tailored to nutritional needs: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy, eggs, infant formula, baby food. Also provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health and social services. Serves approximately 6.3 million participants monthly. Benefits vary by category (pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, infant, child). Average monthly food benefit ~$45-$75 for women/children; ~$100-$130 for fully formula-fed infants.
