VA Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS)

VA support services open to caregivers of veterans of any service era who are enrolled in VA health care. No stipend, no disability-rating threshold, no relative or cohabitation requirement, and no formal application. The broad-eligibility VA caregiver line — the correct referral for the large majority of veteran caregivers who do not qualify for PCAFC.

Five service categories at no charge: (1) Skills training — Building Better Caregivers 6-week online workshop, VA REACH (online and telephone coaching), Annie app automated text-message support. (2) Peer support mentoring — connects caregivers with trained peer mentors. (3) Telephone support — Caregiver Support Line 1-855-260-3274, M-F 8am-10pm ET, Sat-Sun 8am-5pm ET. (4) Suicide-prevention training — S.A.V.E. (Signs, Ask, Validate, Encourage/Expedite). (5) Resource referrals — connects caregivers to local VA services and community resources. PGCSS does not include a monthly stipend, CHAMPVA, or respite — those require PCAFC enrollment.
