AmeriCorps Seniors Senior Companion Program¶
Federal volunteer program engaging adults aged 55 and older to provide companionship, assistance with daily living, and respite care for homebound older adults and persons with disabilities. Volunteers serve 5-40 hours per week and provide direct respite relief to family caregivers.
Trained senior volunteers (age 55+) provide: companionship visits, assistance with daily living tasks, transportation and light chores, respite care for family caregivers, basic wellness checks, and alert medical professionals if needed. No cost to care recipients or their caregivers. Volunteers serve 5-40 hours per week. Program established in 1974.
