OAA Title III-B Supportive Services (Area Agencies on Aging)¶
Older Americans Act Title III-B funds Area Agencies on Aging to deliver homemaker, personal care, transportation, case management, chore, and adult day services for adults age 60 and older. These services directly substitute for family caregiver labor. The 2024 OAA final rule (effective March 15, 2024) explicitly names family caregivers as a service population under III-B. Corpus covers III-E (NFCSP) but III-B covers the broader supportive services layer that relieves caregiver burden.
Funded through formula grants to ~620 Area Agencies on Aging. Services available at or near the care recipient's home (specific availability varies by local AAA): (1) Homemaker services — light housekeeping, laundry, errands; (2) Personal care (chore/home aide) — bathing, dressing, meal preparation; (3) Transportation — medical appointments, grocery shopping, social activities; (4) Case management — comprehensive assessment, service planning, coordination across providers; (5) Adult day services — structured daytime program; (6) Caregiver support services — family caregivers now explicitly included as a service population under the 2024 OAA final rule (effective March 15, 2024, compliance by October 1, 2025). No income test at the federal level; local AAAs may have priority criteria. Find your local AAA at eldercare.acl.gov or call 1-800-677-1116.
