New Hampshire Granite State Paid Family Leave Plan

New Hampshire's Granite State Paid Family Leave Plan is a VOLUNTARY, insurance-based paid family leave program — NOT a mandatory universal payroll-tax program like most other state PFML laws. The plan is mandatory for state employees only; private and non-state public employers with 50+ employees may opt in voluntarily, and individuals can purchase coverage directly. Provides up to 6 weeks (or 12 weeks on extended plans) of wage replacement at 60% of average weekly wages. Administered through MetLife insurance contract. Active since July 1, 2023.

VOLUNTARY opt-in program (not mandatory for private employers). Up to 6 weeks of wage replacement (12 weeks on extended plans) at 60% of average weekly wages, calculated up to the Social Security wage cap ($160,200/year), yielding a maximum weekly benefit of approximately $1,848. Employers choose between 6-week and 12-week plan options. Leave can be taken continuously or intermittently in minimum 4-hour increments. Individual premiums capped at no more than $5/week with a one-time 7-month waiting period. Covers care for a seriously ill family member (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, parent-in-law, son/daughter-in-law), bonding with a new child, and own medical leave. Mandatory for state employees; voluntary for private and non-state public employers with 50+ employees. Individuals can purchase coverage directly during annual open enrollment.
