Medicare Payment for Family Caregiver Training

Medicare payment provision established in the CY 2024 Physician Fee Schedule allowing reimbursement for practitioners who train family caregivers to support patients with certain diseases or illnesses. Expanded in CY 2025 to include direct care training and added to the Medicare Telehealth Services List on a provisional basis.

Medicare-reimbursed caregiver training delivered by physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, physician assistants, clinical psychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, or speech language pathologists. Training topics include dementia care techniques, wound care, infection control, and decubitus ulcer prevention. Available via telehealth starting CY 2025. No cost to caregiver beyond standard Medicare cost-sharing.
