Indiana Pathways for Aging / Structured Family Caregiving¶
Indiana offers self-directed attendant care under the Pathways for Aging waiver, allowing Medicaid-eligible individuals with functional limitations to hire and manage their own caregivers. The state also provides Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) administered through Careforth for live-in caregivers. Indiana was a Cash & Counseling demonstration state, giving it a long history with consumer-directed care models.
Indiana Pathways for Aging waiver provides self-directed attendant care at approximately $12-$15/hr. Structured Family Caregiving offers a monthly stipend of $1,200-$2,400 for live-in caregivers. Family members including spouses can be hired as paid caregivers through both programs. Waitlists are typical for waiver services.
